Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) has been named best supplier in the ‘Best Cost Saving Initiative’ category at the prestigious ‘Excellent Supplier and Contractor Event 2019’ held by Newcastle University.  Only seven awards are made in a variety of categories and no other laboratory suppliers were nominated in any of these.

Neil Addison, Head of Procurement at Newcastle University, when introducing the event stated: “The awards are designed to recognise and acknowledge ‘excellence’ where suppliers have gone above and beyond”.

The category – ‘Best Cost Saving Initiative’ is given to the supplier that has delivered significant cost savings or cost avoidance as a direct result of a project, initiative, intervention or way of working. The citation stated that SLS had been extremely supportive and accommodating regarding Brexit.  SLS identified products which the university use the most and ring-fenced and stored at no extra cost (to the university).  SLS ensured that the university would have a stockpile of essential products, at guaranteed prices, safeguarding continued supplies in the event of post Brexit disruption.

Gary Morton CMIOSH CBCI, Health, Safety and Business Continuity Manager for Newcastle University commented: “SLS has always provided excellent customer service for the university, most recently however they really went the extra mile with Brexit planning, providing great reassurance that the university will be able to maintain essential services for student and staff thanks to SLS”.

Keith Robinson, Territory Sales Manager – SLS was, understandably, elated with the award “Newcastle University is a really important customer for SLS and to be the only laboratory supplier to have won an award is an amazing accolade.  They have over 8,000 suppliers across the board so that speaks volumes”.

SLS has devised a Brexit policy along with FAQ’s and should you wish to discuss the continuity of your laboratory supplies beyond Brexit you can email [email protected] or speak to your local SLS representative.
